Stamford Hospital's Pediatric Team
During your hospital visit and stay, many health care professionals may see your child. These include physicians, pediatric hospitalists, pediatric specialists, nurses, technologists, medical students, physical, occupational and speech therapists, respiratory therapists, dieticians, and social workers. All members of our healthcare team are dedicated to working together to provide the best care for your child during his or her stay.
Physicians and Nurses
Our pediatric physicians and nurses have trained at the country's top academic institutions, and are up-to-date on the latest medical advances. Our team provides compassionate, personalized care and support to pediatric patients and their families.
Pediatric Specialists
Because certain conditions may require specialized care, we've assembled a team of highly qualified doctors—most with faculty appointments at top-ranked medical institutions including Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and Connecticut Children's Medical Center—to deliver expert care right here at our hospital. » Go
Hospitalists
Pediatric hospitalists work with your regular pediatrician and other physicians and providers involved in your child's care. If there is a significant change in your child's condition, a pediatric hospitalist will update your pediatrician. When your child leaves the hospital, a pediatric hospitalist will give your pediatrician an overview of your child's hospital stay and detailed instructions for any necessary further care. » Go
Neonatologists
If your newborn needs medical care he may be treated by one of Stamford Hospital's neonatologists, specially trained to evaluate and treat newborns' medical problems. » Go
Therapists
Therapists specially trained in physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, and speech therapy may become part of your child's care plan. Your child's nurse or physician will explain their role in your child's care.
Social Workers and Case Managers
Clinical social workers are available to help your family manage the stresses that may be associated with your child's illness. Case managers are also available to help make arrangements for your post-hospital care, including home health care or out of home placements. These staff provide the following services:
- Assessment of you and your family's situation
- Current needs crisis intervention
- Individual, family or group counseling
- Planning for your post-hospital needs
- Information about and referral to available community resources and/or financial assistance
Volunteers
Stamford Hospital has many devoted volunteers who read and play games with our patients or assist with meals. If you feel that a volunteer could help your child in some way, please inform your child's nurse.
